FAQS

What kind of stain should I use?

Our standard stain is a product called Ready Seal.  It is oil based and semi transparent so you can still see the wood grains after it is stained.

If you want a solid product that looks like a paint, we commend a ‘solid stain’, like Behr, and applying two coats in the beginning and then upkeep as needed.

There are many great stains out there to choose from.   You can even customize your stains.

Can I paint it instead?

Using paint instead can looks great for years.  We recommend using a primer or putting multiple coats on.  The oil from the cedar wood can bleed through over time, so use a quality paint and multiple coats.

Do you make other products?

Periodically, we make various smaller items that we offer.  These include wooden signs and flags, bottle openers, wooden Christmas trees, etc.

What will happen if I don’t restain or maintain my furniture?

Wood is just like skin.  When exposed to the elements (such as sun and rain), if you don’t take care of it, it will dry out and crack.  Over time, your furniture will change to a silver/gray color.

While this is the desired look for sime, of you wish to prevent that, you will need to apply some type of considtioner or stain periodically.  This can be oil-based or wax based furniture prouduct in between stainings.

Can you engrave my name on my chair?

We can engrave your name, logo, favorite team, or almost anything else on the front seat board and the center of the chair back.  We can engrave it or engrave and fill it with epoxy depending on the look you want.  Contact us for details.

Care & Maintenance

We typically use Ready Seal, a product made in Texas, but you can use the stain of your choice. If you are changing the color of the stain, it may require more steps. If that’s the case, please contact us.
We recommend restaining furniture that is out in direct sunlight and weather every 6 months to keep it looking it’s best. Furniture on a covered patio, etc. can often go a year between staining. First, we recommend sanding the furniture down lightly on the main surface areas (the arm rests, the seat and the back). You can sand down other areas as you see it is needed. Typically, the underside does not need sanding. This can be done with a hand sander, or even just a piece of sand paper if you don’t have access to a sander. The sanding is simply to make the areas smooth again before applying the stain. This process should only take a few minutes.
After sanding, apply the stain you are using. You can use a brush, cloth or sprayer. When we are staining with Ready Seal stain, we use an ordinary bug-spray sprayer, like what you find at Home Depot or Walmart. We spray the stain on with the sprayer and then even it out with a paint brush. Depending on temperature and humidity, the stain is usually dry in an hour or two and your furniture looks like new.
If it has been a long time since you maintained your furniture and it has gotten to that silver stage and you want to bring it back to the original condition, more steps are involved. Please e-mail or call us and we can give you further instructions. Thank you and we hope you get many many years of enjoyment from your new furniture.
